Does Anyone Else Think It’s Culture Shock To Go From A Small Town To A Big City?

I used to live in a small town in Illinois and then moved to a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona and it’s a HUGE culture shock and an entire different world. I went from cold weather and a bland environment to hot, sunny weather and palm trees.
Do you think it’s culture shock to go from a small town to a big city??

I moved from a big city to a very small town ( 2 stop lights) And it ws for me. Although I love it here, I am surprised at how different the people are. I love it here in my new home town, and very happy I made the change. It has been wonderful for my kids to! they love it and are doing so much better in school.

Absolutely! You have to change the way you deal with people in public. In my small town we still greet strangers on the road and often see acquaintances in the grocery store etc. In cities you can’t assume anybody is going to be friendly or even safe! You might not want to look people in the eyes as being an aggressive move, or ever walk on the streets alone, or just saunter instead of walking quickly. No wonder tourists are sometimes so obvious and become targets for muggers, because they don’t act like city-dwellers. Another funny thing I notice is that people in cities are more slim than many people in the country, like the standard of appearance for cities is to be more like magazines.

Shoeless Joe Jackson had such culture shock in a big city that he couldn’t play baseball. He was terrified. He went back to his home town.

Yea because “some” small town people have small brains.
