There is some of the news regarding Basketball Slam Dunk. The Golden State Warriors had just recently completed a trade sending guard Jamal Crawford to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton. The trade rumors had already surface after the All-Star break last season when sources said Warriors coach Don Nelson and Crawford had a feud. Also, it became prevalent after Nelson benched Crawford several times during the regular season last year. Crawford is due to earn $20 million the next two years. His presence with the Hawks will provide depth and flexibility at the guard spot. It would be good to see him team up with starting point guard Mike Bibby.
The recent blockbuster deal that took place, where the Cavaliers acquired Shaquille O’Neal from the Phoenix Suns, is truly in line with what the team wants to achieve next season. Danny Ferry, Cavs General Manager said in a statement, “This move and our goals are aligned with what our players want, including LeBron, to win a championship and win it this year. We don’t want to be patient.” Although Shaq no longer moves like once he did, he is coming off an All-Star season. He average 17.8 points and 8.4 rebounds in 75 games. But his most important contributions perhaps are his ability to slow down any players in the league like Howard.
One (Kyle Korver) out of three Utah Jazz players has decided to remain with the Utah Jazz while the remaining two – Mehmet Okur and Carlos Boozer are still undecided. Okur’s agent, Marc Fleisher said through an email Monday that his client might be opting out, but still hadn’t decided yet. Meanwhile for Boozer, he had expressed of wanting to opt out of his contract too. He said a few months back that he might end up with the New Jersey Nets. Okur is set to earn $9 million next year while Boozer is expected to earn $12 million. Both players have been integral in helping their team reached the playoffs this season.

Suns Top Weekly NBA Power Rankings – NBA Basketball Picks
The Phoenix Suns came to the top of NBA Power Rankings this week by playing strong on road including handling the Celtics their first loss the season on Friday.
Five of Suns’ seven games have been on the road in their remarkable 6-1 season opening, who made Boston look like a bad defensive team.
The Celtics were one place down to second with a 7-1 record. Playing eight games in 12 days. Tired legs affected the defense and the three-point shooting.
The Lakers were one place up to third with Kobe Bryant leading the league in scoring again. Lakers are surviving without Pau Gasol, needing overtimes to win in Oklahoma and Houston this week.
The heat also climbed one place up, joining the Nuggets on the list of teams we didn’t think could have a better season than they did last year. But they’ve got a top-five defense and Dwyane Wade hasn’t had to carry as big of a load.
With half the league looking pretty good and half the League looking pretty bad here’s your NBA Power Rankings:
1. Los Angeles Lakers (4) – Kobe is giving me flashbacks of 2005-06 but I snap out of it when the 40 point game ends in a victory.
2. Boston Celtics (1) – If you want to stay in the top spot you can’t drop your only home game against your only legitimate opponent in the week.
3. Orlando Magic (3) – Blowout in OKC is a head-scratcher, if “the deepest team in the NBA” can’t play better a few people short when the Cavs visit on Wednesday they will be sure to drop–win over the Suns is keeping them afloat.
4. Phoenix Suns (12) – 3-1 with one game left on Eastern Conference road trip, team couldn’t have asked for anything more and they couldn’t be shooting any better from deep.
5. Miami Heat (9) – Quentin Richardson is in the best shape of his life and he is playing great D in addition to outstanding three point shooting—when will be the first game Wade doesn’t lead the team in scoring?
6. Denver Nuggets (2) – Back-to-back road losses hurt, this team is very happy to bring J.R. Smith back but they might be having fears about the Friday the 13th meeting with the Lakers.
7. Dallas Mavericks (7) – The team went 2-1 against three quality opponents, Dirk is in the top five for MVP voting at this point in the season.
8. Atlanta Hawks (8) – Small ball works, the Hawks have done a great job of integrating Crawford in the lineup and Josh Smith realized how difficult he can be to guard in the post.
9. Cleveland Cavaliers (6) – After a four day break, the Cavs will face Orlando and Miami back-to-back, right now splitting would be considered a victory.
10. Houston Rockets (13) – Taking the Lakers to OT is very impressive, Houston is the junkyard dog of the NBA and nobody is excited to face them.
11. Portland Trail Blazers (10) – Win over the Spurs was important for moral, Portland is in a great position to run-off four road wins before entering Atlanta.
12. San Antonio Spurs (5) – Will have to beat Houston this week if they want to get back in the top 10, I understand Pop doesn’t want to wear his guys out but he’s not giving his stars enough PT to win.
13. Toronto Raptors (15) – The Bosh-Bargnani combo is a difficult guard for almost any team in the League, and that’s before you have to worry about the size of Turkoglu.
14. Chicago Bulls (16) – A strong week has the Chi at the top of their division, Tyrus Thomas is out for a while but Luol Deng is playing the best basketball of his life.
15. Oklahoma City Thunder (17) – Beating the teams they should is a good start, beating the Magic at home goes a long way, Durant, Westbrook, and Co. can go 3-1 over the next week.
16. Utah Jazz (14) – Sure they beat the Spurs but they lost to Dallas and now Sacramento, have fun on your road trip.
17. Detroit Pistons (21) – Beating Orlando and Philly in the same week earns them some respect, are the injuries to Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince real?
18. Philadelphia 76ers (18) – They haven’t beaten a team who’s better than them yet, in fact, they almost lost to the Nets.
19. New Orleans Hornets (19) – Beating Dallas was a nice sign of life but their aren’t many easy wins on the horizon.
20. Charlotte Bobcats (24) – Raja Bell’s return sparked a few needed wins, this team is twice as good at home as they are on the road.
21. Indiana Pacers (22) – After the next two weeks this team should be sitting above .500, they aren’t ready for the playoffs but they are better than people think.
22. Los Angeles Clippers (23) – Three-game streak has Chris Kaman looking like an All-Star, but don’t be fooled they were playing Minnesota, Golden State, and Memphis.
23. Milwaukee Bucks (20) – Brandon Jennings showed New York the mistake they made when they drafted Jordan Hill over him.
24. Washington Wizards (11) – A four-loss week hurts, Gilbert is scoring but he isn’t taking over like he did before the injury.
25. Sacramento Kings (27) – Down goes Kevin Martin (surprise, surprise) and Tyreke Evans is ready to battle Jennings for the ROY, 55 points in two games is a good start.
26. Golden State Warriors (25) – How long till Don Nelson starts going crazy with his roster? If Morrow isn’t starting by the end of November I’m starting a petition.
27. Memphis Grizzlies (28) – Saying goodbye to A.I. could be best for the team, now if they could only find a way to chase off Z-RO.
28. New York Knicks (26) – This team is sorry, sad, and ugly. I hope 2010 is worth it because basketball is dying in New York.
29. Minnesota Timberwolves (29) – Is everyone aware that Olesksiy Pecherov is starting in Minnesota? You know, the 7-footer born in Donestsk, USSR? No? Anybody?
30. New Jersey Nets (30) – John Wall would be my pick, especially if Harris is going to get hurt once a month. If not maybe Ed Davis or Derrick Favors would be an attractive post to pair with LeBron.

NBA Power Rankings : Nuggets Go Top – NBA Basketball Picks
Milwaukee Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings explosive start to NBA Basketball Picks life has made the Bucks relevant again and in first place in the Central division. Meanwhile, the Portland Trail blazers have quietly won six straight, however the Boston Celtics drop back-to-back games for the first time this season to see them tumble from top spot.
What does it all mean? The week three power rankings provides the answer.
ATLANTA HAWKS – Jamal Crawford is averaging 17 points off the bench providing the Hawks with the offensive weapon that’s been missing over the last couple of seasons. Atlanta has won three straight and begins a three game homestand on Monday night against the Blazers. I love the way Josh Smith is playing right now. Mature, responsible and unselfish. PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS – Portland has won six straight, but apart from against the San Antonio Spurs, none of their wins have come against playoff bound opponents. Defensively, Greg Oden’s game looks to be coming together, now if he can just provide some consistency on the offensive end, the Blazers will become even more formidable. PHOENIX SUNS – A thumping loss to the Lakers tempered the Suns hot start, however, Phoenix has a fairly light schedule for the rest of the month which should keep them among the leaders out West. CLEVELAND CAVALIERS – The Florida double-header is never easy so that the Cavs went 2-0 in two nights suggests that, after their sluggish start, LeBron has got Cleveland on the right track. The LeBron/D-Wade rivalry continues to live up to the hype. MIAMI HEAT – In case you missed it…here it is again . Oh, and then he followed that up with this Yes, Dwyane it is your house. Anyone expect Dahntay Jones to be Indiana’s second leading scorer at 16 PPG? BOSTON CELTICS – The Celtics stumbled this week and showed a vulnerability against fast paced teams. An Eastern conference finals rematch at home with the Orlando Magic is a must-watch on Friday night. MILWAUKEE BUCKS – By now, everyone knows Brandon Jennings went off for 55 points against the Warriors on Saturday night, but did you know that for the week, the rookie shot 9-for-10 from three point range and 60-percent from the field? He’s also leading the team in assists.
DALLAS MAVERICKS – The Mavericks overcame a 17-point deficit at home to defeat the Rockets but they couldn’t overcome a Spurs team on the road that was missing Duncan and Parker. Dallas gets another shot at the back-to-full-strength San Antonio this week. DETROIT PISTONS – Will Bynum is a mini-me version of Ben Wallace, but with an offensive game. The Pistons have been treading water without Hamilton and Prince but they face a tough test this week at L.A. (Lakers), Portland and Utah. ORLANDO MAGIC – The Magic welcome back Rashard Lewis this week and his arrival couldn’t come at a better time. Orlando’s offense has been inconsistent and with Lewis back on the floor, it will take some of the heat off of Dwight Howard. CHICAGO BULLS – The Bulls begin the first of six straight on the road on Tuesday at Sacramento. Chicago scored 60 points in the first half against Toronto on Wednesday but managed only 29 in the second half en route to a loss. The Spurs leading scorer? Four players are averaging 15 PPG. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER - OKC burn the Spurs in San Antonio on Saturday night but then can’t get it done against the Clippers on Sunday night, despite 40 from Kevin Durant? There is so much to like about the Thunder, but consistency continues to be their biggest obstacle. HOUSTON ROCKETS – The Rockets are easily the hardest team to rank. They lose at Sacramento but win at the Lakers. I love Aaron Brooks aggressiveness which is tempered perfectly by the calmness of Luis Scola. SACRAMENTO KINGS - Just what is going on in Sactown? The Kings are 4-0 since Kevin Martin went down. I can’t wait to see Tyreke Evans go up against Brandon Jennings in December. How strange does that sound, looking forward to a Bucks versus Kings matchup? TORONTO RAPTORS – The Raptors spotted the Clippers a 22-point lead before romping home by 15 points on Friday night. Then on Sunday night, Turkoglu missed a buzzer beater against the Phoenix Suns. If Toronto can be at or over .500 by the time they return home on Friday night to face Miami, it will have been a successful road trip. PHILADELPHIA 76ERS – Losing sophomore Marresse Speights for up to eight weeks is a severe blow to the Sixers. Philly’s main problem though remains on the defensive end where they have already allowed more than 110 points four times this season. Elton Brand is averaging less than 10 points per game. MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES – If there’s one player I wouldn’t sign to replace Allen Iverson, it would be Jamaal Tinsley. The Pacers gave him $14-million to go away, that’s got to say something about his character. Must be good enough for Grizzlies owner Michael Hiesley though. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS – The dub’s squeaked out two wins this week. One was against the Timberwolves and the other against the Knicks. It just goes to show the state of Minnesota and New York that even Golden State, with all their chaos and mess can still keep it together enough to beat them. NEW ORLEANS HORNETS - Chris Paul deserves so much more than what he’s getting from Hornets owner George Shinn. Byron Scott was unlucky to get the boot and the best New Orleans can hope for from this season now is a high lottery pick. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS – The Bobcats are last in points scored and field goal percentage. They have scored less than 82 points in six of their nine games. It makes you wonder how they’ve acutally been able to win one, let alone three games. WASHINGTON WIZARDS – Let me get this straight. Earl Boykins hadn’t played in the NBA since April 2008, and he comes off the bench to lead the Wizards in scoring in his first game back. It still wasn’t enough to stop Washington from losing their sixth straight. Sure it was 1-0 and their lone victory was over the Nets but the way they have played since makes you wonder how they ever did it. NEW JERSEY NETS – The Nets remain ahead of the Knicks because they’ve at least shown an ability to compete, as was proven against Miami on Saturday night, but when you’re down, you’re down. NEW YORK KNICKS - Mike D’Antoni will probably survive the season, but he needs to get this team to show some passion and fight. Anything better than what the Knicks have offered so far will be an improvement.
